TEDDY BEAR CLINIC FOR ABUSED CHILDREN

 

Background

The Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children was initiated in 1986.  It is situated at the Transvaal Memorial Institute for Child Health and Development, Parktown.

Service Provided

The Teddy Bear Clinic provides both medical and short term counselling services to sexually abused children and their families.

Training Provided

The Teddy Bear Clinic offers training (covering a wide spectrum of child abuse issues) to medical professionals, social workers, teachers and communities.

It has established a court preparation programme for abused children and their families.

bullet

An awareness programme for school children in Soweto is also being initiated.
