CHIP
Chip
is a film and television production company that has a strong focus in the field
of educational communication. The company started in 1990 and is based in
Midrand, near Johannesburg, with a representative office in Cape Town. Over the
past ten years Chip has produced top-rated award-winning material for
television. From children’s programmes such as “Jabula”, “Look& Say”, “Woza Nazo” that entertain younger children while also
teaching general child skills to programmes like “Sibongile” that focused on
TB in the home, and “Moshwela Tharing” thatfocused on child abuse within afamily.
In1992 Chip developed with Link Pharmacies one ofthe very first multi-media educational programmes on television, “Link
Baby Talk”, a series aimed at first-time mothers. Chip also worked
hand-in-hand with the Alexandra Clinic in developing and producing the first
series of “Soul City”, theeducationalhealth series. “52 Regent East” is a youth series that focused on
young people and Aids, complimenting the long-running series “Living with
Aids” produced around South Africa. The award-winning series “Kelibone”
targeted youth and adults addressing issues around reconciliation.
Khanyisile,
the five-year multi-media child rights series of programmes, has been developed
by Chip with NGO stakeholders in the field of child abuse and neglect, as well
as representation from the NPA. This project is awaiting funding, and is
scheduled for broadcast in 2000.
