ABOUT
SASPCAN
HISTORY
The South African Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (SASPCAN) was founded in 1984 to act as a forum and
provide support for anyone who wishes to assist in the combatting of child abuse in our country. It is also a
networking organisation which provides information and training in this field and promotes inter-disciplinary co-operation in and co-ordination of services to abused children and their families. SASPCAN was not originally intended to be a direct service organisation but
its branches have occasionally been able to initiate services where gaps exist; operating these until they have reached independence.
